Introduction
Alabama Remembers Jeff Cook: “We Miss Him More Than Words Can Say”
To millions of fans, Jeff Cook was an essential part of the signature sound of Alabama — a masterful guitarist, a warm voice, and a smile that lit up every stage. But to his bandmates, Jeff was far more than just a talented musician. He was a brother — a piece of their musical soul.
“I think about Jeff every single day,” said Randy Owen, his voice heavy with emotion. “And no — the way we miss him, it’s not something anyone could imagine. There are moments during rehearsals, quiet spots on stage — places where he used to stand — and now, they’re just memories.”
Jeff passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Though his illness gradually took him away from the stage, it never took him out of the heart and spirit of the band. Even when he could no longer perform, Jeff remained present — calling in, sending love, always cheering them on from afar.
“He was the soul of Alabama,” said Teddy Gentry. “Our music has always carried Jeff’s fingerprints, and it always will. Every time I hear a solo ring out, I feel like I can hear Jeff playing along in the wind.”
Since his passing, Alabama hasn’t felt the same — not in the way the group once stood complete. Yet the love, friendship, and legacy of music they shared with Jeff continue to live on. In every song, in every tour stop, Jeff is still there — not in body, but in spirit.
“We never really said goodbye,” Randy added softly. “We just kept singing — because that’s the best way to keep Jeff with us. In the music, in the crowd, and always in our hearts.”
