Alabama's Randy Owen: 'I'm Enjoying Every Moment of My Life' - Parade

Randy Owen Once Wished My Mom a Happy Mother’s Day – Now, That Moment Means More Than Ever

In 2013, something unforgettable happened to my family. During a Mother’s Day concert by the legendary country band Alabama, lead singer Randy Owen took a moment to do something simple, yet deeply meaningful: he wished my mom a happy Mother’s Day from the stage.

It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t scripted. But it became one of the most treasured memories our family ever shared.

My mom had been a lifelong Alabama fan. She’d played “Feels So Right”, “Angels Among Us”, and “Love in the First Degree” so many times, the lyrics felt like part of our family history. That night, in a packed venue filled with music, lights, and applause, Randy looked out into the crowd, pointed toward our section, and said, “Happy Mother’s Day, ma’am. This one’s for you.”

She cried. We all did.

It wasn’t just a moment of celebrity kindness—it was a recognition of her, as a mother, as a fan, and as someone whose life had been touched by Alabama’s music for decades.

But now, over a decade later, that memory feels different. My mom passed away in 2021 after a long illness. And when Mother’s Day rolls around each year, I find myself going back to that one night. That one moment when Randy Owen, without knowing us, gave her something beautiful and unforgettable.

Time moves on. The band keeps touring. Life changes. But that small gesture—a few words from a stage—became part of our story forever.

Music has a way of doing that. It reaches beyond notes and lyrics. Sometimes, it becomes the thread that ties generations together.

So now, when I hear Randy Owen’s voice, it’s not just a song I hear—it’s a memory. A gift. A thank-you.

And wherever she is, I know she’s still smiling about that unexpected wish from her favorite band.
