Bradley Cooper in Talks to Star as Barry Gibb in New Bee Gees Biopic

Bradley Cooper is reportedly being lined up to portray Barry Gibb in an upcoming biopic about the Bee Gees, marking the latest major music legend to receive the Hollywood treatment. The film is currently in the early stages of development, with heavyweight producers Graham King—known for Bohemian Rhapsody—and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment attached. Paramount Pictures is also involved in the project.

According to a new report from The Daily Mail, Cooper has been approached to take on the role of the Bee Gees’ frontman and is said to be in “informal discussions” about joining the cast. If confirmed, the actor and director—who earned widespread acclaim for A Star Is Born—would bring significant star power to the production.

The biopic’s screenplay is being crafted by Anthony McCarten, the writer behind Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything, and Darkest Hour. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, McCarten shared insights into his collaboration with Barry Gibb during the writing process.

“I’ve flown down to Miami and had two long meetings with Barry,” he said. “The way that you work, it’s a partnership and you join hands. I always make it clear that this is not a photograph—it’s a painting. It’s impressionistic by its very nature, and I have to be given room to move. There may be aspects you struggle with, but if we leave those out, it’ll be dramatically inert. And do you want a bad movie?”

The film, still untitled, is expected to trace the Bee Gees’ rise from their early days in the 1960s through their explosive fame in the 1970s, exploring both their musical triumphs and the personal stories behind the brothers’ enduring legacy.

With the combined talents of King, Amblin, and McCarten—and the potential addition of Cooper—anticipation is already building for what could become one of the next major music biopics to hit the big screen.
