Bruce Springsteen

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen shocked and delighted fans at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Wednesday night by launching his concert with a high-energy cover of the Bee Gees’ disco classic “Stayin’ Alive.”

Paying homage to the Bee Gees—who hailed from nearby Redcliffe—Springsteen’s choice was more than just a crowd-pleaser; it was a heartfelt salute to Australia’s rich musical legacy. Backed by the powerhouse E Street Band, Springsteen reinvented the 1977 hit as a soulful, rock-driven anthem, effortlessly blending his gritty style with the infectious groove of the disco era.

The audience erupted the moment the unmistakable opening chords rang out, instantly recognizing the iconic tune. Springsteen—widely revered as “The Boss” for his electrifying stage presence and fearless approach to genre—infused the performance with boundless energy, dancing and singing with gusto. The result was one of the most talked-about highlights of his 2014 “High Hopes” tour.

“It was completely unexpected, and absolutely brilliant,” one fan raved after the show. “Only Bruce could take a disco hit and make it feel like one of his own.”

This isn’t the first time Springsteen has surprised crowds with unconventional covers. Throughout his career, he’s woven everything from punk to pop into his setlists, always adding his unmistakable touch and reaffirming his reputation as one of rock’s most dynamic live performers.
