Introduction:
Kane Brown to Make Feature Film Debut Opposite Taylor Lautner in The Token Groomsman
Multi-platinum country superstar Kane Brown is set to make his feature film debut in the upcoming romantic comedy The Token Groomsman, starring opposite Taylor Lautner. Directed by Natalie Simpkins, the film is a lighthearted indie tale that blends romance, comedy, and high-stakes luxury.
The story follows Lautner’s character, Scott, a career-focused man who hits rock bottom at work and unexpectedly receives an invitation to serve as a groomsman at an elite destination wedding. The twist? He doesn’t remember who the groom is. Hoping to make connections with the wealthy elite, Scott jets off to Italy planning to blend in and capitalize on the opportunity—but sparks unexpectedly fly with the groom’s sister, Mia, forcing Scott to choose between chasing business deals or following his heart.
When discussing casting, Simpkins said, “We knew we needed bold, lovable personalities to match the heart and humor of this story. Kane brings something so unique. He has a rare mix of vulnerability and magnetism that’s incredibly compelling.”
Simpkins co-wrote the screenplay with John C. Hall and Sohale Andrus Mortazavi, working from a story by Hall. The film will be produced by Pam Renall, John C. Hall, and Simpkins through their Retinue Media production company. Production is set to begin later this year. The Fithian Group’s Attend will oversee the U.S. theatrical release on approximately 2,500 screens, while Radiant Films International handles global sales.
For Brown, this marks a major expansion of his already remarkable career. He first made his acting debut in an episode of CBS’s Fire Country in 2023, and now steps into a leading film role. Brown’s music career, which launched in 2016 with his self-titled, 2X Platinum debut album, has already made history—he became the first artist to simultaneously lead all five of Billboard’s main country charts and earned two of the most-streamed country songs of all time.
With 12 No. 1 singles at country radio, internationally sold-out tours, and headline stadium dates, Brown has amassed critical acclaim alongside commercial success. He has been named to the TIME100 list and has received multiple nominations from the ACM, Billboard, AMA, CMT, and People’s Choice Awards. His fourth studio album, The High Road, is out now.
Brown is represented by Neon Coast and WME, and his transition into film signals his growing influence beyond music. The Token Groomsman promises to showcase not only his acting potential but also the charisma and stage presence that have made him a global superstar. Fans can expect a romantic comedy filled with humor, heart, and the magnetic energy Kane Brown brings to every project he touches.
