Engelbert Humperdinck Mourns Wife’s Alzheimer’s Death: “She Was Taken Gently – God Had Other Plans”

Legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck has spoken candidly about the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Patricia, who passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. In an emotional reflection, the 88-year-old performer described her passing as “gentle” and shared his belief that “God had other plans” for the woman who had been the love of his life for more than five decades.

Patricia Healey, who died in 2021, had struggled with Alzheimer’s for over a decade. Humperdinck often shared updates on her condition with fans, inviting them to pray for her and joining support groups to better understand the disease. Her decline, he said, was slow but cruel—gradually stealing the essence of the woman he once knew so vividly.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Release Me singer recalled the moment she passed: “It was peaceful. She was surrounded by love. I truly believe God came and took her hand.” He added that despite his pain, he finds comfort in the idea that her suffering is over, and that she is now “free from the grip of a terrible disease.”

The couple had been married for 56 years and raised four children together. Patricia remained largely out of the public eye, but Engelbert frequently credited her as his emotional anchor throughout a life in the spotlight. “She was my strength behind the scenes, my compass, my home,” he said.

Since her death, Humperdinck has dedicated several performances to Patricia’s memory and continues to speak out about Alzheimer’s awareness. He hopes to use his platform to advocate for families living with dementia and to inspire more research into treatment and care.

Fans have rallied around him with messages of sympathy and gratitude for his honesty in speaking about grief. While the pain of her absence remains, Humperdinck says he finds healing through music, family, and faith. “Love doesn’t end,” he said quietly. “It just changes form.”
