Joe Bonsall, the distinctive tenor voice and beloved member of The Oak Ridge Boys, passed away at the age of 76 on July 9, 2024, at his home, peacefully surrounded by loved ones, after a prolonged battle with multiple health issues. Having joined The Oak Ridge Boys in October 1973 and dedicating 50 years to the group, Bonsall was known for his unique tenor voice and charismatic stage presence, contributing to their 17 number-one country songs and 34 top-10 hits. His health struggles included emergency heart surgery in 2014 and severe complications after contracting COVID-19 in 2022, which significantly weakened him. The Oak Ridge Boys expressed deep sadness, remembering him as “like our brother and our good friend,” and emphasizing that his “singing and his Happy Spirit were a big part of our band.” Joe Bonsall will be remembered not only for his significant contributions to music but also for his resilience, dedication, and strength in the face of adversity.
