The Joys of Fatherhood and a Chart-Topping Family Duet
Being a father to Kingsley Rose and Kodi Jane is “amazing” for Brown. He delights in his one-year-old Kodi Jane’s “crazy personality now, smiling all the time saying daddy.” His three-year-old Kingsley Rose knows how to melt his heart: “‘I love you, Dad’ is like the best feeling in the world and just playing and running around the house,” he shared.
Brown also revealed an adorable secret for getting Kodi Jane to stop crying: playing his hit song, “Thank God,” which features his wife, Katelyn Brown. “It’s funny because I have people tell me all the time that my music makes their kids stop crying, so when our one-year-old’s crying, we put on ‘Thank God’ and immediately, she stops,” Brown explained. He added that seeing his daughters watch him and their mom on TV performing the song is “the best part.”
“Thank God” proved to be a monumental hit for Brown, marking his ninth career No. 1 on February 11. It was also a significant milestone for Katelyn, as it was her first No. 1 song. This achievement made the Browns only the second married couple to top the charts together since Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “It’s Your Love” in 1997. The couple not only starred in the song’s music video but also performed it live overseas during Brown’s “Drunk Or Dreaming Tour.” Katelyn was initially nervous about performing live, but Brown reassured fans she would be “alright.”
New Music: A Deeper Dive into Mental Health
Beyond his current hits, Brown is already looking ahead to new music, revealing that his upcoming songs will be “a little bit darker” and explore themes of mental health.
“Recently, I’ve been writing a lot of music. I actually wrote three the other day,” the “Different Man” singer stated. “I’m super excited about this new music, so I’m just going to keep writing. I will say I have a couple songs that are a little bit darker about mental health, and then I have a song called ‘Learning,’ that I went a little bit more in depth over the stuff that I went through, so I’m really excited about the music that we’re writing right now.”
Brown has been open about his struggles with depression and anxiety, which led to a hiatus from music in 2020 and 2021. He previously released “Memory” with Blackbear in July 2021, a song that also delves into mental health topics and finding escape from life’s challenges. He noted that as he spends more time in the music business, he becomes increasingly comfortable discussing these issues, believing it makes it easier for others to do the same.
Fitting songwriting into his packed schedule often means writing on the road, typically on his tour bus. “If I don’t write for a long period of time, I start itching,” he shared, mentioning recent songwriting sessions in Europe with his publishing team.
In addition to writing and doting on his daughters, Brown is busy with his “Drunk or Dreaming Tour” and has several festival dates lined up for the summer. He also recently co-hosted the 2023 CMT Awards alongside fellow country singer Kelsea Ballerini.
