Kane Brown Attacked on Social Media Over His Tribute to Charlie Kirk

Kane Brown thought he was posting a simple tribute. Instead, the internet turned on him.

The country star, who rarely dives into politics, shared his heartbreak after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was gunned down during an event in Utah. What followed was a storm of backlash from both sides of the political aisle.

Some slammed Brown for not acknowledging the recent murders of Democratic leaders in Minnesota. Others accused him of bowing to “liberals” and demanded he take a stronger political stance. The criticism quickly spiraled, with one commenter even shaming him for honoring Kirk as a Black man.

Brown didn’t stay silent. He posted screenshots of the hateful messages, giving fans a raw look at the vitriol filling his inbox. One message sneered: “Why didn’t you post about the democratic representatives being murdered?!!!!” Another pushed from the opposite direction: “Stand up don’t be silent and bow down to those liberal POS…you have a huge platform use it!”

The most cutting remark told him he had “offended [his] ancestors” by supporting Kirk. That’s when Brown responded with words that revealed how deeply the attacks wounded him:

“I’ve been called the n-word my whole life. I don’t want those people dead.”

It was a rare, unfiltered glimpse of the toll online hate can take. Soon after, Brown announced he was stepping away from social media altogether: “My last post for a while, be safe guys and love one another.”

The tragedy that sparked it all is still reverberating across the country. Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck at Utah Valley University and later died. He leaves behind a wife, two young children, and a movement of supporters who viewed him as a rising political force.
