“I Can Feel It” is a dynamic track by American country artist Kane Brown, released on September 21, 2023, as the lead single from his fourth studio album, The High Road. This song stands out for its creative fusion of country music with elements from Phil Collins’ iconic 1981 hit, “In the Air Tonight.” Brown co-wrote the track with Gabe Foust and Jaxson Free, with production handled by Dann Huff. Notably, Phil Collins is also credited as a songwriter, acknowledging the song’s interpolation of his classic drum sequence.
The inspiration for “I Can Feel It” emerged during Brown’s performance at the Stagecoach Festival in April 2023. Initially, he envisioned bringing Phil Collins on stage for a unique collaboration. Although this live performance didn’t materialize, the idea sparked the creation of a song that pays homage to Collins’ work. In an interview, Brown shared, “We were sampling that big drum fill, and the title is ‘I Can Feel It,’ so it’s, I can feel it in the air tonight.”
Upon its release, “I Can Feel It” quickly gained traction, debuting at number 30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the week of October 7, 2023. It also entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 59 and the Canadian Hot 100 at number 58. The song’s success was further solidified when it climbed to the top position on the Country Airplay chart, marking Brown’s eleventh number-one hit in this category.
The accompanying music video, directed by Alex Alvga, complements the song’s energetic vibe and has contributed to its widespread popularity. In support of the single and his album, Brown announced the “In The Air Tour,” set to commence in March 2024. This tour will cover 29 cities, including major stops in Newark, Toronto, Las Vegas, and Atlanta, culminating in a performance at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on September 14, 2024.
