Kane Brown Makes History at the VMAs with Crossover Performance

Country superstar Kane Brown made history as the first male country artist to perform on the main stage at the VMAs. In a pre-show interview, he opened up about the significance of the moment, his future in music, and his unexpected collaborations.

Making a Statement

Brown acknowledged the unique nature of his VMA performance. While he was proud to be making history, he admitted, “I’m kind of upset that I’m not singing a country song.” However, he also saw the opportunity to introduce a new audience to the genre. By performing a pop-leaning song, he hopes that people will go down a “rabbit hole” and discover more country artists.

When asked if he plans to transition entirely into pop music, Brown was quick to put fans’ minds at ease. He confirmed that his upcoming 17-song album, Different Man, will only feature a couple of pop songs, including one with his wife. “No, I’ll never just transition straight to pop,” he stated, much to the relief of his country fans.

A Different Kind of Success

Brown also reflected on his personal style and his journey from a small town to the VMAs. He talked about his golf game, joking about a near-miss and calling out fellow player Jaylen Rose for being the “worst person” on his team.

When asked about his collaborations, he shared that most of his partnerships have happened at non-country events, hinting that the VMAs could lead to new projects. While he didn’t reveal any specifics, he did flash some of his impressive jewelry, which he said was a sign of his success. “I’m from Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia,” he said, indicating the journey he has taken.
