Kane Brown: From Homeless to Headliner
In a candid interview with Certified Country’s Sophie Lacey, Kane Brown opened up about his incredible journey, love life, and the stories behind his tattoos. At just 24, Brown has an inspiring backstory, having gone from homelessness to a major country music star. After being turned down by Idol and X Factor, he found success on YouTube and social media, leading to a record deal and a number one debut album. He recently made history by becoming the first artist to top all five Billboard country charts simultaneously.
A “Heaven”-ly Love Story and Wedding Plans
Brown’s love for his fiancée, Katelyn, is clear. He revealed that wedding planning is primarily Katelyn’s domain, with him simply agreeing to her choices—the “correct answer,” he joked. He knew she was “the one” because she’s his perfect match: “She’s literally just like me,” he said. “She wears all my clothes, she thinks all my clothes are cool… she’s funny, we get along all the time, and she loves music as much as I do.”
Katelyn is also the inspiration behind his new single, “Heaven.” He shared that his previous song, “What’s Mine is Yours,” made her emotional, and he believes “Heaven” will resonate with many couples.
Tattoo Tales: From a Bible Verse to a “Wolf Pack”
he interview also delved into the stories behind Brown’s tattoos. His first tattoo, a Bible verse on his chest, was done when he turned 18. His most recent and most painful tattoo is a rose on his hand, which he says is for his fiancée, whose middle name is Rose. The “wolf” tattoo, which some of his team also have, represents their close-knit, family-like bond, much like the movie The Hangover. He admitted to regretting two of his tattoos—a Chinese symbol and music notes—but also acknowledged that without them, he might have joined the Army, so he sees it as a sign that “God was looking out for me.”
Rapid-Fire Fun and Future Plans
In a quick “Country Quickie” round, Brown revealed his first concert was Christian God’s Daisy and his first purchased album was also by Christian. He admitted to listening to his own music, especially his new song “Heaven,” and said if he weren’t an artist, he’d likely be working at FedEx, which he called his favorite job before music. The one thing people would never guess about him by looking at him? “I’m not a rapper.”
Looking ahead, Brown is already thinking about his next full-length album and is excited to write with a new core group of collaborators. He also mentioned that he’s looking forward to his upcoming tour with Chris Young and the band Lanco, predicting it will be a fun tour.
