Kane Brown Opens Up About His New Album ‘High Road,’ Family Life, Collaborations, and Personal Growth
Kane Brown is stepping into 2024 with a fresh perspective, a new album titled High Road, and a renewed sense of authenticity. Known for breaking boundaries in country music, the Georgia-born superstar joined The Bobby Bones Show to discuss everything from his songwriting process and surprise collaborations to his tattoos, gym habits, and the vulnerability behind his unreleased music.
A New Album Reflecting Depth and Growth
High Road, Brown’s newest project, features 18 tracks that reflect not just musical versatility, but personal growth. “It’s the first album where I’ve truly taken the time to think through the sequencing,” Kane said. Although he admitted he felt rushed at the end, the result is an album he’s proud of. One standout track, “Backseat Driver”, wasn’t written by Kane but resonated deeply with him: “I felt like I wrote it. It brought me back to middle school mornings with my parents.”
Despite being known for his singles, Kane acknowledged fans’ demands for a full-length project. He leaned into it and even included a few last-minute tracks, like “Rescue Me” featuring Kelsea Ballerini (referred to as “K” in the interview), which was written and recorded just days before the album’s deadline.
The One That Got Away (For Now)
Among the songs that didn’t make the album is one of Kane’s most emotional pieces yet — “Be a Boy”, a vulnerable track about growing up too fast without a father. Though it was recorded, Kane chose not to release it just yet. “I couldn’t do the song justice,” he admitted. “It’s very sad, and I need more time to live with it.”
Behind the Music: Collaborations and Surprises
The album also features an impressive lineup of collaborators. “Haunted” with Jelly Roll was inspired by writing in a creepy hotel room with an actual vault. “It started as a vibe… and became a song about depression,” Kane said. When he sent it to Jelly, the genre-bending star jumped on it immediately.
Brad Paisley also makes a guest appearance, thanks to legendary producer Dan Huff. Fans originally imagined Paisley on the track when Kane teased it on Instagram — and they were right. Paisley not only added vocals but played a solo on the final version.
Kane’s wife Katelyn Brown also returns for another duet, “Body Talk.” Originally meant for a female guest artist, possibly Selena Gomez, the track became something more real when Katelyn expressed interest. “She said, ‘I would kill this,’ and I agreed. It felt more authentic to have a husband-and-wife duet.”
More Than a Musician: The Real Kane
In between the music talk, Kane got candid about his personality. Despite his fame, he says he’s often misunderstood in public. “People think I’m a jerk,” he laughed. “But I just have a resting B face, and I assume no one wants to talk to me.” His quiet nature contrasts sharply with his wife’s bubbly personality. “She could talk to a tree,” Kane joked. “She carries all our dinner conversations.”
He also opened up about dealing with the spotlight in everyday life. Public outings with his kids can be awkward, not because of rude fans, but because of the pressure of being watched. “It’s like everyone’s fishbowling you… and you wonder, ‘What face am I making right now?’”
Fitness, Tattoos, and Family Life
Kane, known for his recent fitness transformation, admitted he’s trying to better himself. A recent Instagram post showing his ripped back was more about accountability than vanity. “I’m barely on social media, so I had to post something,” he laughed.
As for tattoos, Kane admitted he’s still debating whether to finish or remove his chest piece — a Batman-to-hawk cover-up that’s never quite felt complete. “There’s so much scar tissue. It’s so painful now,” he said. But when asked if he’d consider laser removal, he jokingly replied, “Do you know how bad that would hurt?”
Acting Dreams and The Big Game Moment
Kane revealed he’s been in talks for a movie role, although production has yet to begin. “I haven’t taken acting lessons,” he said. “I’m just raw-dogging it.”
He also reflected on an unforgettable moment from a celebrity softball game where he dropped a pop-up early in the game, then later redeemed himself with a home run and game-saving defensive play. “Jenny Finch looked at me and said, ‘You got this.’ That brought my confidence back,” Kane said. “That moment reminded me you just have to shake off the mistakes and keep going.”
A Humble Star with Big Dreams
Despite his fame and chart-topping success, Kane Brown remains humble, reflective, and determined to keep growing. His new album High Road isn’t just a musical statement — it’s a personal one. From introspective storytelling to bold collaborations, Kane’s continuing to expand what country music can be, while staying rooted in his own story.
As his High Road Tour kicks off this March, fans can expect more than just great music — they’ll witness a man who’s evolved with every chapter and is finally, fully embracing the artist and person he’s become.
