Kane Brown Teases Vulnerable New Song About Mental Health Struggles

Kane Brown has never shied away from opening up about mental health in his music, but a new track he previewed on Instagram Stories on Tuesday (July 8) reveals his most personal and vulnerable message yet.

The ballad strips things back to focus on Brown’s raw, emotive vocals as he reflects on one of the darkest times in his life earlier this year. In the lyrics, he imagines his own funeral, questions what comes after death, and wonders about the people he might leave behind.

“Could I go back in time? / Who would I say goodbye to? / Who would I run back to?” he sings. “When the sun shines down / All my friends gather ’round / Underneath that weeping willow / Who would I see, who would I be? Where would I go?”

Brown explained that the song was born from what he described as his “dark days” before recent positive changes in his life. “I wondered if when I was gone if I would be in the spirit world or what I would do,” he shared. “Who would be at my funeral at the end of the day after all of this.”

This isn’t the first time Brown has addressed mental health through music — his 2021 duet with Blackbear, “Memory,” touched on similar themes. But the singer’s latest song offers an unfiltered glimpse into the emotional struggles that sparked his recent health transformation in 2025.

In early April, Brown began a new wellness journey, posting “before and after” updates on social media as he focused on both physical and mental strength. He revealed he lost 16 pounds through fasting and clean eating, cutting out gluten and sugar. Yet he also emphasized that true progress came from mental resilience.

“The real fight is with yourself,” Brown wrote. “Every time I want to quit, I keep going. And the next day, I push even harder. If I slip, I hold myself accountable and come back stronger.”

Now, as he continues to focus on health and discipline, Brown is also finding ways to transform past pain into powerful music — a reminder to fans that even in life’s darkest moments, healing and hope are possible.
