Kane Brown's 'Dark Days' Before His Health Journey Were Worse Than We Realized

Kane Brown Reveals His “Darkest Days” in Emotional New Song Tease

Kane Brown has never shied away from addressing mental health in his music, but the country star’s latest unreleased ballad—teased on Instagram Stories on Tuesday (July 8)—may be his most personal and vulnerable message yet.

The raw, reflective track showcases Brown’s rich vocals while pulling listeners into the difficult mental and emotional struggle he experienced earlier this year. Its lyrics contemplate life, death and the lingering questions that follow someone through their darkest moments.

In the song, Brown imagines what life after death might look like for him. He envisions mourners gathered beneath a weeping willow, wonders who would miss him, and wrestles with the unknown of what comes after.

“Could I go back in time? / Who would I say goodbye to? / Who would I run back to?” he sings. “When the sun shines down / All my friends gather ‘round / Underneath that weeping willow / Who would I see, who would I be? Where would I go?”

A Glimpse Into His Lowest Point

Sharing the clip, Brown explained that the song came from a period he describes as his “dark days”—a low point he endured just months before beginning his now widely documented health and wellness journey.

“This was during my dark days before these last couple months of my life turning around,” he wrote. “I wondered if when I was gone if I would be in the spirit world or what I would do… who would be at my funeral at the end of the day after all of this.”

While fans have heard Brown explore mental health themes before—such as on his 2021 duet with Blackbear, “Memory”—most were unaware of just how serious and recent this downward spiral was.

A Turning Point Toward Healing

In early April 2025, Brown began sharing milestones from his renewed focus on health, wellness, and discipline. Although many of his updates have highlighted physical progress—like losing 16 pounds after fasting and eating clean—he has repeatedly emphasized that the true battle began internally.

“The real fight is with yourself,” he wrote in one transformation post. “Every time I want to quit, I keep going… If I slip, I hold myself accountable and come back stronger.”

Brown has also reminded fans that physical and mental health are inseparable.

“Once you start seeing results, there’s no turning back,” he shared. “You feel better, look younger, sleep deeper, and your mood shifts. Discipline builds everything.”

A Song Fans Are Already Calling His Most Honest Yet

Though the full track has not been released, Brown’s brief preview has sparked strong reactions from fans, many of whom praised the singer for speaking openly about a struggle so many quietly endure.

For now, the song remains a private reflection of a painful chapter—but one that ultimately led Brown toward rebuilding, resilience, and a healthier future.
