Phil Robertson Passes Away at 79: The Robertson Family Shares Emotional Tributes to Their Beloved Patriarch, Mentor, and Spiritual Guide

Mia Robertson's Phil Robertson Memory Will Break Your Heart

On May 25, Phil Robertson — the beloved patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family — passed away at the age of 79. His family confirmed the news in a heartfelt social media post, writing: “Today, we celebrate that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord. Thank you for the love and prayers from so many who have been touched by his life — saved by grace, led by bold faith, and filled with a passion to share the good news of Jesus.”

Phil was not only the founder of Duck Commander, but also a spiritual rock for his family and countless fans. Since his passing, hundreds of tributes and memories have poured in, a testament to the powerful impact he had on so many lives.

One of the most touching tributes came from Mia Robertson, his granddaughter, who shared: “Although he was legally my grandfather, I never saw him that way. I saw him as my friend, my mentor, my ally, and my inspiration.” She explained that Phil didn’t often express love through hugs or words — his love showed through action: in his daily prayers, his fierce loyalty, and his constant presence during times of hardship.

Jace Robertson, one of Phil’s sons, revealed on the family’s podcast that his father had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. His health declined significantly in the final year, including a fractured back, a blood disorder, and multiple strokes.

Willie Robertson, Phil’s son and CEO of Duck Commander, said Phil’s final moments were filled with clarity, laughter, and spiritual peace. “Dad would want everyone to know: Jesus is Lord,” he shared with fans.

Sadie Robertson, Phil’s granddaughter, recalled his final words to her: “Full strength ahead.” She explained that it wasn’t a physical strength he was referring to, but rather a confidence in where he was going. “He lived simply, without a phone or computer, yet his life touched millions with the hope of Jesus. He reminds me of the people in the Bible.”

Born in 1946 in Louisiana, Phil was once a star quarterback at Louisiana Tech University. In 1973, he founded Duck Commander, a company that would grow into a multi-million-dollar empire and inspire the hit TV show Duck Dynasty (2012–2017). A new series, Duck Dynasty: The Revival, is set to premiere on June 1, 2025, chronicling the family’s journey and Phil’s final months battling Alzheimer’s.

Phil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marshia Kay (Miss Kay), their five children, and numerous grandchildren. A private funeral was held, with a public celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Phil Robertson lived an imperfect but deeply authentic life — marked by unwavering faith, fierce love, and an influence that reached far beyond his small, humble home. A legend of faith, a father, and a guide — he is now home.
