Willie Nelson’s Wife Corrects Misreporting About Their Care and Health
Willie Nelson’s wife, Annie D’Angelo, is pushing back after a media outlet inaccurately reported on the couple’s care and wellbeing.
Last week, on Friday, April 18, D’Angelo responded to an Instagram post by AXS TV, which had been shared on April 14. The post included a photo of Willie Nelson, 91, D’Angelo, 63, and their son Lukas Nelson, captioned: “Lukas Nelson takes pride in taking care of 91-yr-old dad, Willie Nelson & 63-yr-old mom, Annie D’Angelo. Lukas makes sure mom & dad are comfortable and living their best life after many long years of making rad music.”
In the comments, D’Angelo pointed out the inaccuracies in the report and criticized the station for using a photo sourced from another user. “Hey @axstv, why would you take a photo from someone else’s feed (my friend @marthacasselbodell) & then make stuff up?” she wrote.
D’Angelo clarified the family situation, emphasizing her own independence and the support from their sons. “I still take care of my husband (Lukas has always been there for us as has his brother @particlekid) and love it,” she said. “Then you claim our incorrect ages. Don’t do that. Just ask.”
Willie Nelson and Annie D’Angelo, the country singer’s fourth wife, have been married since 1991. Both of their sons, Lukas and Micah Nelson, are professional musicians. Lukas, 36, is set to release his solo debut album, American Romance, in June, while Micah, 34, performs with his band Particle Kid.
Contrary to AXS TV’s implications about Willie and Annie’s health, Willie Nelson remains active, currently touring with Bob Dylan and other artists as part of the Outlaw Music Festival, which is traveling across the United States throughout the summer.
In a November 2024 interview with the Associated Press, Willie expressed confidence in his health, saying, “I feel like I’m in pretty good shape physically. I’m 91 plus, so, you know, I’m not worried about it. I don’t feel bad. I don’t hurt anywhere. I don’t have any reason to worry about dying,” adding that he takes “pretty good care of myself.”
D’Angelo’s response underscores the importance of fact-checking and respecting privacy, particularly for public figures whose personal lives are often misrepresented.
