Introduction
n November 2019, Barry Gibb touched hearts as he expressed a love that had lasted over 50 years by serenading his wife, Linda, at a charity concert.
The former Bee Gees member performed many of his iconic hits during the event, but the most unforgettable moment came when he sang “Words”—a song originally written for Linda in 1968—directly to her.
Audience members captured the touching moment when an emotional Linda reached out to her husband from the front of the stage, and Barry lovingly took her hands as he continued singing. As the crowd joined in during the moving final chorus, Barry appeared visibly emotional, perhaps overwhelmed by the collective sentiment in the room. After pretending to end the performance with a heartfelt farewell, he returned for an energetic encore, bringing the house down with the disco classic “Stayin’ Alive.”
The concert was part of the 30th annual black-tie charity gala organized by former tennis star Chris Evert to support philanthropic causes in Florida. Barry and Linda first met in 1967 and were married in September 1970. They went on to build a beautiful life together, raising five children and becoming grandparents to seven grandchildren. In September 2020, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and this year (2025), they are set to mark 55 years of marriage.
That warm 2019 performance was not the first time Barry sang “Words” for Linda. Every time he performs the song, it’s clear that it carries deep personal meaning—his love for Linda and their family always shining through.
Four decades earlier, Barry also sang the same song directly to Linda and their then-baby son Stephen during a concert on the Bee Gees’ Spirits Having Flown tour.
The charity concert in 2019 was a true Gibb family moment, as Barry and Linda’s son Stephen joined his father on stage, providing backing vocals throughout the set and even performing a brief solo during the rendition of “To Love Somebody.”
