The Oak Ridge Boys are honoring their cherished longtime member Joe Bonsall, who recently passed away, with a new music video for their song “Promised Land.” This song is from their 2021 album, *Front Porch Singin’*.
Following the news of Bonsall’s death earlier this month, many of the group’s fans began sharing “Promised Land” as a way to remember him. Written by Ashley Monroe, the song had already connected with listeners. As they mourned the loss of their friend and bandmate of 50 years, the Oak Ridge Boys decided to create a special tribute to him. William Lee Golden suggested a music video for “Promised Land.”
Duane Allen explained the song’s origin, saying, “I called Ashley Monroe and asked her to write a song for our *Front Porch Singin’* album. We spoke about what we were looking for. Within a few days, Ashley sent ‘Promised Land.’ I loved it immediately and sent it to David Cobb. He wrote back ‘home run!’ When we got into the studio, the magic happened. David voiced Joe in a lower key than normal so he could almost talk this message. I feel that David captured Joe’s heart and soul. Our ‘OOO’s’ are only heard at the end of this masterpiece.”
Joe Bonsall had retired from touring in January 2024 and spent his final months completing his memoir, *I See Myself: Musings and Memories of a Blessed Life*, which is scheduled for release in mid-November. The Oak Ridge Boys are currently continuing their “American Made Farewell Tour,” and more dates are still being added.
