Bee Gees co-founder Barry Gibb paid a heartfelt tribute to his late brothers and bandmates during the final stop of his Mythology Tour, making it a special family affair. Following the deaths of his brothers Maurice in 2003 and Robin in 2012, Gibb embarked on the tour to honor both the band’s legacy and the familial bond that sustained it. During the performance, he was joined by his son Stephen on guitar and Maurice’s daughter Samantha on vocals, as they performed timeless hits like How Deep Is Your Love and Stayin’ Alive. The Los Angeles Times reported that the Hollywood Bowl show included videos and photos of his siblings, and even Gibb’s daughter Ali helped run the teleprompter. Throughout the evening, Barry shared stories about his brothers, at times becoming emotional as he reflected on their memories.
On stage, the 67-year-old Gibb fondly remembered Maurice and Robin. “Maurice loved children and magic tricks. If he were around today, the iPad would be his world,” he said. He described Robin as “two opposites” — someone who could be in a fantastic mood one moment and change quickly the next. “I could never quite gauge that, and Maurice was the mediator between us,” Gibb added.
The audience at the Hollywood Bowl included some familiar faces, with Olivia Newton-John among those seen singing along. Gibb also performed Grease‘s theme song, which he wrote and was famously sung in the film by Frankie Valli.
During the show, Gibb also sang Immortality, a track he considered the brothers’ best. Originally written for Celine Dion’s 1998 album Let’s Talk About Love, the song featured background vocals from the Bee Gees.
After the concert, Gibb sat down for an interview with Paste magazine, where he shared a lighthearted moment about being parodied on Saturday Night Live in the recurring sketch, The Barry Gibb Talk Show, with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. Gibb admitted, “I wish I had a talk show! It’d be great! … It started becoming something I wanted to see every time it was on. You’ve gotta laugh at yourself, man. You’ve gotta laugh at yourself.”
