Duane Allen, lead singer of the Oak Ridge Boys, is mourning the loss of his beloved wife, Norah Lee Allen, who passed away on March 31, 2024, at the age of 76. The couple had been married for nearly 55 years, and Duane shared the heartbreaking news with the public, describing the final moments he spent with Norah Lee.
In a statement shared by his publicist, Duane, 80, wrote, “This morning, my wife of 54 years and 8 months took her last breath of air on planet Earth. Norah Lee went to be with Jesus at 7:28 a.m., Easter morning.” He explained that her family had been by her side at Vanderbilt Hospital, spending the night with her, singing to her, telling stories, and loving her every moment. Duane expressed gratitude for the love and support he had received, saying, “Jamie, Dee, and I would like to thank you all for your love and prayers. We have been at her bedside for over nine weeks.”
Norah Lee Allen was a prominent singer with the Grand Ole Opry, where she graced the stage with her remarkable voice for over 40 years. Her career also included performing with legendary artists such as Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, and many others. She began her career at a young age, singing with her sisters in *The Stuart Sisters Trio*, and later worked with the Chuck Wagon Gang before joining the Grand Ole Opry band in 1980.
Her legacy as a vocalist was complemented by her devotion to her faith and family. Norah Lee’s ability to balance her professional career with her personal life was something she cherished deeply. Duane, their children, and grandchildren were at the heart of her world, and her career and dedication to country music left an indelible mark on Nashville’s music community. In 2022, Norah Lee was inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in recognition of her lifetime achievements.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Lewisburg, Kentucky. Duane Allen, known for his leadership of the Oak Ridge Boys, has been unable to attend some of the band’s recent performances due to his wife’s illness. However, the Oak Ridge Boys are continuing their “American Made: Farewell Tour,” celebrating the band’s long and distinguished history.
Duane’s deep love and respect for Norah Lee were evident in his statement, and her passing has left a significant void in his life and the country music world. The Oak Ridge Boys, alongside their fans, will remember Norah Lee’s immense talent, grace, and dedication to both music and family.
