Lukas Nelson Reveals if Dad Willie Nelson Was ‘Heartbroken’ When He Stopped Smoking Weed
Ninety-one-year-old country music legend Willie Nelson, famous for his massive music career and his love for cannabis, surprised many when he revealed he had stopped smoking it for health reasons. This decision, after decades of use, sparked much speculation about his true feelings. Recently, Willie’s son, Lukas Nelson, offered a candid account of his father’s reaction.
In a recent interview, Lukas, a talented musician who inherited his father’s passion for music, was asked if Willie Nelson was “heartbroken” about giving up his long-standing habit. Lukas answered with sincerity and humor, reflecting the Nelson family’s optimistic nature.
“I think ‘heartbroken’ is too strong a word,” Lukas said with a laugh. “My dad is a realist. He knows health is the number one priority at this age. Of course, it’s a big change after so many years, but my dad isn’t someone who dwells on the past or regrets what’s over.”
Lukas explained that Willie Nelson was aware of the effects of smoking on his health, particularly his respiratory system. While cannabis might offer certain benefits, at 91, protecting his lungs became more important than ever.
“He’s still very happy and creative,” Lukas added. “Music is still his lifeblood. He’s still writing, recording, and performing. It’s just now, he’s doing it with slightly healthier lungs. I think he’s proud of this decision.”
Lukas also shared that the family fully supports Willie’s decision. They have noticed a positive change in his health and spirit since he quit. “The most important thing is that my dad feels healthy and happy,” Lukas emphasized. “And right now, he’s doing great.”
So, while Willie Nelson may have had fond memories with cannabis, quitting wasn’t a “heartbreaking” event for him. Instead, it was a mature and responsible decision, showing his deep concern for his health and his desire to continue dedicating himself to music in the years to come.
