Kane Brown Celebrates Eighth Consecutive No. 1 With “Backseat Driver”

Kane Brown gathered members of the Nashville music industry, along with friends and family, on the BMI rooftop Wednesday afternoon to celebrate his latest No. 1 single, “Backseat Driver.”

Written by Jacob Davis and Jordan Walker and produced by Dann Huff, the track marks Brown’s eighth consecutive chart-topper at country radio. It is featured on his most recent album, The High Road.

The celebration, co-hosted by BMI and ASCAP, was emceed by BMI’s MaryAnn Keen. Guests heard from a lineup of industry leaders, including Sony Music Nashville’s Dennis Reese, Black River’s Rebekah Gordon, ASCAP’s Evyn Johnston, On Cor Music’s Mickey Jack Cones, and Combustion’s Chris Van Belkom, who all praised the songwriters, producer, and Brown for the heartfelt success of the record.

Many highlighted the track’s emotional honesty and its ability to capture everyday life, while also commending Davis and Walker for their seamless collaboration in bringing the story to life.

Studio Bank sponsored the event, with Ron Cox presenting a donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in honor of the songwriters.

Huff, who produced the single, expressed his excitement about the project, while Walker celebrated his second career No. 1, noting the support of Sony, Combustion, and Brown for choosing the track. His family surprised him by traveling from Texas to attend the event.

Davis, reflecting on the song’s inspiration, shared that his nine-year-old daughter motivated much of the writing. “This is one of the most special songs I’ve ever been a part of because it couldn’t come from a more real place,” he said. “I want to thank Kane Brown because it is guys like him who give us the fire to do what we do.”

Closing out the event, Brown thanked the writers for crafting a song that resonated with his own season of life. “I think it’s so cool how Nashville works and everybody is just family,” he shared. “Not everybody will take something away from that song, but the whole song means something to me.”
