Introduction:
Kane Brown Steps Back From Social Media After Backlash Over Charlie Kirk Tribute
Kane Brown has once again stepped away from social media, following intense backlash over a post he made honoring late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10.
The country star’s tribute was met with a flood of negative comments, many of them deeply personal. In response, Brown told fans that it may be a while before he posts again.
Kane Brown’s History With Social Media Breaks
This isn’t the first time Brown has deactivated or stepped away from his accounts. Over the years, the singer has had a complicated relationship with social media:
April 2018: Brown and his wife, Katelyn, both deactivated their Instagram accounts. Fans speculated about everything from new music to family news. Later, Brown revealed the move was a publicity tactic to spark conversation ahead of a new release.
2019: After being snubbed for CMA nominations, Brown shared a controversial meme on Twitter, then deleted the account. He later explained that his management would take over his Twitter and Facebook accounts moving forward, so he could focus on music, family, and his mental health.
Though Brown rose to fame through social media — particularly Facebook — he has never hidden the fact that the platforms can take a toll on him.
The Charlie Kirk Controversy
Brown’s latest hiatus comes after fans criticized him for paying tribute to Kirk, who was fatally shot on Sept. 10 during an event at Utah Valley University.
Some commenters accused Brown of betraying his identity, with one writing that by honoring Kirk, he had “offended [his] ancestors.” Another called Kirk “a racist bigot who didn’t believe in gun regulations.”
Brown pushed back, writing:
“I’ve been called a n—-r my whole life. I don’t want those people dead. Now I’m just getting mad. I don’t talk about this s–t. I don’t do politics. That’s not for me. I just want y’all to love each other, bro. It’s really not that hard.”
He ended the exchange by announcing: “My last post for a while. Be safe guys and love one another.”
Katelyn Brown’s Response
Shortly after, Katelyn Brown posted a message of faith on Instagram, quoting Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Kane Brown Today
Brown, now 31, was born on October 21, 1993. Though his career has been fueled by social media since the beginning, he has often chosen to step back when it begins to affect his mental well-being.
For now, fans may see less of him online, but his message remains clear: focus on love, not division.
