Introduction:
Kane Brown Opens Up About Being Biracial and Preaching Unity Amid Racial Tensions
Country star Kane Brown has spoken candidly about his experiences growing up biracial and navigating racial tension in America. The 26-year-old singer, whose mother is white and father is Black, reflected on the challenges of being “caught between two worlds” in an interview with HITS Daily Double.
“I’m trying to bring everybody together, and they want me to pick a side,” Brown said. “I’m both, and both push back. I try to understand and see each without losing the other.”
Brown admitted that online criticism from both communities has been difficult to handle, but he remains focused on spreading a message of love and understanding.
He also spoke about policing and racial bias, acknowledging that while there are “bad cops,” not all law enforcement officers should be judged the same. “If I get stopped, I put my hands out the window so they can see I don’t have a weapon,” he said. “You have to be careful — you don’t know what they’re scared of.”
The singer, who welcomed his daughter Kingsley in 2019 with wife Katelyn, said he’s thankful she’s too young to remember the unrest of recent years. “Having a biracial daughter, people ask how I’ll explain things to her when she’s older,” he shared. “All I can do is teach her to love everyone.”
In 2020, Brown released “Worldwide Beautiful,” a song calling for equality and unity. “People on both sides said they felt it,” he said. “That’s how we start moving forward — through love and understanding.”
