Last night on the Country Music Cruise, I had the pleasure of performing for Randy Owen of Alabama and his wife, Kelly. It was a truly special moment for me. Growing up in Luverne, Alabama, I was a huge fan of Alabama and Hank Williams Jr. Whenever either act performed anywhere nearby, my dad would make sure to take me to see them. Their music played a big role in my early years. I even performed Alabama songs with the FFA String Band and spent countless hours improving my guitar skills by playing along with their records. Looking back now, it’s amazing how life comes full circle. After all these years, Randy was telling me how much he enjoys one of my songs. He and Kelly both love “Thank You Lord,” a song I co-wrote with Cheryl Riddle and Mo Pitney. Getting the chance to sing that song for him last night was a memorable experience and one I’ll never forget.
