Cane Brown had plenty to celebrate when he arrived at the 2018 Taste of Country Music Festival. The country star had just experienced one of the biggest moments of his career after winning a CMT Music Award for Video of the Year with “What Ifs,” his collaboration with Lauren Alaina.
During an interview at the festival, Brown spoke about the excitement of finally taking home an award. Although he had attended numerous award shows before, he had learned not to expect too much from them. This time, however, his relaxed attitude worked in his favor.
“I just decided not to get my hopes up,” Brown explained. “The one time I didn’t get my hopes up, I ended up winning.”
The victory meant even more because Brown was able to share the moment with Lauren Alaina. “What Ifs” had become his first No. 1 song, making the award another important milestone in his rapidly growing career. For Brown, the trophy represented more than just recognition. It gave him a sense that all of his hard work was beginning to pay off.
At the Taste of Country Music Festival, Brown was also promoting his latest single, “Lose It.” Unlike some of his more personal material, the song was created simply to be fun. Brown said he and his songwriting partners had originally been working on another song but eventually decided they wanted something with a strong summer feeling.
“Lose It” was the result. The upbeat track focuses on letting loose, having a good time, and spending a carefree night with someone special. Brown hoped listeners would be able to connect with its lighthearted message and make the song their own.
The singer also revealed that fans could expect a different side of him on his upcoming album, scheduled for release in November. While his first album felt more autobiographical, Brown wanted the new project to be more energetic and entertaining. He was also looking for ways to bring more excitement to his live performances.
When asked about possible collaborations, Brown hinted that several ideas were being discussed, although nothing had been officially confirmed. One particularly interesting possibility involved Thomas Rhett, with whom Brown had been exchanging text messages.
Whether or not that collaboration eventually happens, Brown was clearly enjoying a major turning point in his career. Between an award-winning hit, a new single, an upcoming album, and possible future collaborations, 2018 was shaping up to be an unforgettable year for the country star.
